On Friday September 8, 2023 Home and School hosted our annual Corn Roast Homecoming BBQ!

The turnout was amazing.  The kids had lots to eat and enjoyed lunch outside with all their friends after the long summer!

We think we might have had a record number number of volunteers.  They say many hands make light work and it's true.  The group was so well organized the prep and serving was a breeze.

Thank you to everyone involved!!

In addition one student from kindergarten Cycle 1, 2 & 3 each received a book for “out-reading” their teacher!

The Not in my School team is a student-led anti-bullying club at South Hull comprised of approximately 40 students from grade 1 to grade 6. One of their initiatives this year was to spread awareness about bullying and promote kindness and respect at school through student-made posters. Home and School was happy to fund the materials needed so students could design and create posters that hang proudly in our hallways!

The South Hull Home and School committee's funds are put to good use. Here's a sample of how the students are benefiting.

Terry Fox Apples

Each year South Hull participates in the Terry Fox Run. It acts as a wonderful kick-off activity to start each school year. Students and staff do a wonderful job of showing Terry Fox Spirit. On the day of the run, Home and School was thrilled to purchase apples so each student could have a snack before or after the event. These apples serve as a nice treat and extra pick-me-up for the students!

Golden Ticket

Golden tickets are given to students from staff to acknowledge them going above and beyond with positive acts at school (being polite, showing respect, being helpful, etc). These tickets enter the students into a draw at the end of each month. Eight lucky students receive a 10$ book gift card. Home and School is happy to fund these prizes each month.

Not In Our School

Not In Our School inspires students of all ages to develop and share innovative ways to resist bullying and promote an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusion. Home and School was happy to help promote this initiative by purchasing t-shirts and materials to make promotional posters.

School Mascot

Home and School enthusiastically funded the purchase of a new school Mascot !!! We all know South Hull has the best Golden Eagle spirit in the region but now the school gets to showcase it !! You never know when you will run into our new Golden Eagle !!!

Sport Jerseys

Our South Hull junior student athletes representing our school at future RSEQ tournaments will be looking sharp with the brand new sport jerseys Home and School was happy to purchase!

Love of Reading

February is Love of Reading month! Home and School was privileged to support the Love of Reading initiative by Mr. Beauchamp and Ms. Clarke. Our donation will be used to purchase books for the prize winners !!

Art Club

Did you know South Hull has two Art Clubs? Many students take joy in being able to let their creative juices flow at lunch time with Mme Hamilton or Ms Deirbhile! Home and School was proud to fund the purchase of new art materials for both clubs!

Lunch Bins

Home and School was happy to purchase lunch bins for every class to support our Mazzola food orders. This has made the delivery of lunch orders a breeze!!

Bingo

Who doesn’t love a good game of Bingo?? During certain times of the year the students and staff of South Hull participate in a WHOLE SCHOOL bingo game !! To keep this beloved tradition alive, South Hull happily replaced the old bingo machine which had almost no life left in it! With our funds the school was also able to buy bingo cards which can be photocopied for ease of playing the games !

Staff Appreciation Lunch

South Hull has the best staff in the world! During Staff Appreciation Week, Home and School provided a shawarma buffet with all the fixings for all of our wonderful staff members. Students were also asked to write a special message to a staff member of choice inside a cut-out heart and these hearts now adorn the walls of our school for everyone to read! We were happy to help make Staff Appreciation Week a success !!

Graduation Hoodies

Home and School brought forward a new initiative this year which will be a future tradition for all graduating grade 6’s ! Roaming the halls of our school on any given day, you will find many of the grade 6 students proudly wearing their new hoodie!!! What makes these hoodies especially special (aside from having our beautiful golden eagle on the front) are the individual signatures of all their fellow graduates on the back! Each grade 6 student was sized and given a hoodie for free!

Community Gardens

Community Gardens: South Hull students are so fortunate to have our community gardens. From seed to sow, our students learn the importance of food sustainability and so much more! Home and School is happy to fund expenses of this important initiative.

White Boards

White Boards are an important learning tool. Home and School was proud to buy a new class set of white boards for Ms. Parlee’s class!
